Social Networking Book - Penny Power
know me, like me, follow me
(what online social networking means for you and your business)
Penny Power; Publisher: Headline Business Plus 2009
Penny Power founded Ecademy in 1998. Together with her husband Thomas and Glenn Watkins, they steered Ecademy up and down the dot com bubble to become the pioneering social networking web site. She sacrificed the multi-million pound valuation by venture capital to develop her vision so that today, all of us can utilise social networking.
Penny has written a social networking handbook; it not only explains what social networking is but also, how to get the most from it. She has put all the current methodology in one location in keeping with the open, sharing and caring mindset. Social networking is still in its infancy and we are going to face a number of uncertainties in its journey to maturity,
Penny comes out very heavily on 2 aspects – people and trust. Social networking is about people having conversations which in turn build trust. People always like dealing with people. Technology is only the conduit that enables the people to converse over greater distances.
The book is a compelling read for the early adopter to any laggard who is still wondering why the broadcast model (or tools of the previous age) no longer work as effectively. Penny is like a mother; founding the Ecademy site and then providing us with a handbook to guide us through. She has shown passion and perseverance.
Yes, I have not only ordered a copy but I will be recommending it. I know that I will be constantly referring to this book in the future. Also I am extremely grateful to Vanessa for the kind loan of her copy. I am very careful about purchasing books as I have been stung by the publisher’s dross and have just too many unread books.
Change is happening all around us all the time. Currently, we are at the juncture where many new trends are becoming more pronounced. Social networking is one of the new trends based on my analysis of the time dimension of Feng Shui. I will be covering this topic in a later blog.
